Terms of use

In plain words: what you can expect from Small Hours, and what it expects from you. Last updated 27 October 2026.

What Small Hours is

Small Hours is a self-help tool that guides you through Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia. It records what you tell it about your sleep, works out your sleep efficiency, and recommends a weekly change to your time in bed using a fixed, published table.

What it is not

It is not medical care and not a medical device. It does not diagnose anything, it never gives an opinion on medication, and it does not predict how your sleep will turn out. Nothing it shows you is a substitute for advice from a doctor or another health professional. If something about your health is affecting your sleep, that belongs with your doctor.

It is for adults

You must be 18 or older to create an account. You confirm that when you sign up.

If you are in crisis

Small Hours is not an emergency service and nobody is watching it in real time. If you are thinking about harming yourself, call or text 988 — the suicide crisis line in Canada and the US, 24/7 — or call 911 if you are in immediate danger.

Paying, and stopping

Subscriptions are billed monthly in Canadian dollars through Stripe, who handle the payment — card details never reach Small Hours. Cancel any time from Settings; you keep access until the end of the period you have paid for, after which the lessons for weeks 4 to 6 stay open but the coach and the other paid features close, and there is no partial refund for an unused part of a month. Your sleep diary, your sleep-efficiency figures and your weekly sleep window stay free whether you subscribe or not.

Your account

Keep your password to yourself — an account is one person's, and the sleep history in it is treated as that person's. Tell us if you think somebody else has got into it.

When we can close an account

We may suspend or close an account that is being used to break these terms or to interfere with the service. You can close yours whenever you like.

Links to the full course

Small Hours is built from a clinician-designed CBT-I course, and the Lessons screen links to that course for anyone who wants the full lectures. That course is sold separately by the clinician who teaches it, not by Small Hours, and Small Hours works fully without it. Small Hours earns nothing if you follow that link or buy it, and nothing in the app depends on whether you do. The people who run Small Hours do also work with that clinician's practice, which is why the link is there.

Changes

If these terms change in a way that matters, the date at the top changes and you will see the new version here before it applies to you.

Who to contact

To ask for a copy of your data, to have something corrected, or to have your account deleted, write to hello@trysmallhours.com. You will get an answer within 30 days.

Small Hours is a self-guided program for adults. It is not an emergency service. If you are in crisis, call or text 9-8-8 in Canada or the US at any hour.
