Privacy
Small Hours holds health information about your sleep. This says exactly what is collected, who can see it, and what you can make us do about it. Last updated 12 October 2026.
What is collected
Your email address, your first and last name, and the name you choose to be called. We keep your full name to recognise you if you contact us, and to match your account to a course list if you joined through a clinician's course. We do not sell your full name, use it for advertising, or show it to other users, and the AI coach is not given your last name. What you enter in your sleep diary each morning — times, minutes, a quality rating, and anything you type in your own words. Whether you have subscribed. If you use the AI coach, what you write to it and what it replies.
What is never collected
No date of birth, no address, no phone number, and no card details — Stripe handles payment and Small Hours never sees a card number. Nothing is bought from or sold to advertisers, ever.
How pages are counted
We count how many people open each page, and which link brought them, so we can tell whether anyone is finding this. The counting sets no cookie, does not follow you to other websites, and is not attached to your name or your account. Nothing you write in your diary or say to the coach is ever part of it.
Which link brought you
If you arrived through a link with a tag on it — the kind in an email, saying which message it came from — that tag is kept with your account so we can tell which message reached people. The tag is a single word like “launch”. It is never your name, your address or anything you typed, it is recorded once and never changes, and it has no effect at all on what you see or what you can use. It is deleted with your account like everything else.
When a screen breaks
If part of the app crashes on your phone, a short technical report is sent so it can be fixed: which screen broke, the line of the app's code involved, the app version, the kind of phone and browser, and the last few screens opened before it. The report is not attached to your name, your email or your account, and nothing you wrote in your diary or to the coach is part of the report.
Who can see it
You can. The people who operate Small Hours can, when they need to in order to run or fix it. If you are a patient of a clinician who uses Small Hours, that clinician sees your data only after a link between your accounts exists — being sent their sign-up link does not create a link between your accounts.
Sleep-diary free text is screened for crisis language
Once a day, what you have typed in your own words is checked for signs that you may be in crisis. If the check finds something, a person is told, and that record is kept separately from your account. This is the one case where something you wrote is read by a human without you asking. The check is not immediate and is not a monitoring service — see the crisis note in the terms.
Where it is kept
In a database run by Supabase, encrypted at rest, with rules that restrict every row to the account it belongs to. Some of the services Small Hours uses operate outside Canada, so your information may be stored or processed outside the country.
The law that applies
British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) applies to Small Hours, and Canada's federal PIPEDA applies as well where information moves across a border. Both give you the same rights below.
What you can require
You can ask for a copy of what is held about you, ask for something wrong to be corrected, and ask for your account and its data to be deleted. Any of those gets an answer within 30 days. One exception, stated plainly: a crisis record created by the screening above is kept for seven years from the day it was created, even if you delete your account.
How long the rest is kept
Your diary and your account are kept for as long as you have an account, and removed when you delete it.
Who to contact
The Small Hours Privacy Officer handles this. To ask for a copy of your data, to have something corrected, or to have your account deleted, write to hello@trysmallhours.com. You will get an answer within 30 days.
Small Hours is a self-guided program for adults. It is not an emergency service. If you are in crisis, call or text 9-8-8 in Canada or the US at any hour.
